Half-Cent Renewal

Half-Cent Renewal

The Flagler County Board of County Commissioners approved the Flagler County School District’s request to place a ½ cent sales tax renewal referendum on the November 8, 2022, General Election ballot. This is the same ½ cent sales tax first approved in 2002 and renewed by Flagler County voters in 2012.

Should voters agree to the renewal, funds raised from the ½ sales tax would finance all school technology upgrades, improve safety and security within the district, renovate classrooms, and improve operational efficiency. For the first time, charter schools in Flagler County would also benefit.

As we have seen over the past twenty years this sales tax has been collected, and all funds have stayed in Flagler County to directly support our schools. It is also an opportunity for those who visit Flagler County to help contribute to educating our children. The continued local support has also allowed Flagler Schools to devote a larger portion of our state and federal funds to the classroom than having to use that money for items covered under the ½ cent sales tax.

It is important to note, that this is not a new tax. The referendum is simply asking the voters of Flagler County if they will continue supporting the efforts of Flagler Schools as they have over the past two decades. We invite you to view our presentation to the Flagler County Board of County Commissioners at their June 20th meeting (beginning at the 1:43:26 mark).

Flagler Schools values the importance of community input and involvement. If you have any questions or comments regarding the ½ Cent Sales Tax Renewal, you may contact us through our “Let’s Talk!” platform.
