Auditions

Flagler Youth Orchestra offers four levels of instruction/musical experience for string students. These include:

• Vivace: Advanced
• Allegro: Intermediate-Advanced
• Andante: Intermediate
• Adagio: Beginner

The strings program conducts auditions to place students in the orchestra level that will best serve them. Auditions are based on skills like posture/stance, bow hold, tone quality, rhythm, and more. 

Vivace is our advanced orchestra. Students are expected to be comfortable with all major scales, show knowledge of some advanced techniques, and demonstrate high proficiency on their instrument. Allegro is our intermediate-advanced orchestra. Students are expected to be comfortable with major scales in most keys, able to "shift," and demonstrate medium proficiency on their instrument. Andante is our intermediate orchestra. Students are expected to be able to comfortably read music and demonstrate basic proficiency on their instrument. Please refer to the audition material by instrument below and click on a link to the printable music selections.

Adagio is our beginning group. There is no audition necessary. Any student who is new to playing an instrument will begin in the Adagio group.
