McKinney-Vento Homeless Education Assistance Act

Homeless children and youth are individuals who lack a fixed, regular, and adequate nighttime residence. The federal McKinney-Vento Homeless Education Assistance Act ensures educational rights and protections for children and youth experiencing homelessness by supporting their enrollment in school.

State and local educational agencies ensure that homeless children and youth have equal access to the same free public education as other children and youth. All educational agencies review and revise any practices or policies that may act as barriers to the enrollment, attendance, or school success of homeless children and youth.

Flagler Schools receives grant funding from the Florida Department of Education to assist with compliance with the McKinney-Vento Act. The grant provides funding for a district-level homeless education liaison who is primarily responsible for implementing the grant and coordinating all its components.

Flagler Schools is an Equal Opportunity Institution.
