Is Your Student Ready for Kindergarten?
To help your child be ready for all they will learn in kindergarten, please help them practice these skills.
Reading, Writing, Listening, and Speaking
- Know the names of the alphabet letters and the sounds that they make.
- Know your first and last name and how to read, spell, and write your first name.
- Ask and answer questions in complete sentences.
- Rhyme familiar words (for example: bat, cat, sat, mat).
- Hold a pencil correctly and practice writing words you see at home.
Math
- Count, read, and write numbers up to 10.
- Create and solve real-world math problems up to 8.
- Recognize, continue, and copy repeating patterns (for example: AB, ABB, or ABC).
- Describe, sort, and group 2D and 3D shapes based on their size and the number of sides.
- Compare objects using measurable features lik length and weight.
Social & Physical Development
- Use words to communicate feelings and needs.
- Play well and problem-solve with peers.
- Open prepared food, eat, and drink with tools without assistance.
- Sit at a table or carpet to complete a non-electronic task for 10 minutes.
- Undress and use the toilet without assistance.
