Mental Health & Wellness

Mental health includes our emotional, psychological, and social well-being. It affects how we think, feel, and act. It also helps determine how we handle stress, relate to others, and make choices. There are many different types of mental health services available for Flagler Schools students.

Every Flagler Schools student has access to mental health services, either through their health insurance, Medicaid, or the Full Service Schools (FSS) grant. Families with insurance should contact their insurance company to determine who their providers are. If the student is uninsured, families are encouraged to apply for benefits from Medicaid.

The primary reason to use Medicaid rather than the FSS grant is that many of our families qualify for Medicaid benefits, which provide long-term therapeutic coverage for counseling. Another reason is refusal of services by families. Only under specific conditions can we require involvement in mental health services, and if the student is not a willing participant or supported by the family, the services are ineffective.
