School Board Spotlights: October 2022

During the October 18, 2022 School Board meeting, Board members took a few minutes to spotlight Disability History and Awareness Weeks and Matanzas High School teacher Tony Zaksewicz.

The first two weeks of October are recognized as Disability History and Awareness Weeks. Lauren Marshall, who runs the TRAIL program, shared a video and spent time showing how students with disabilities have the same dreams as those without disabilities and how Flagler Schools is helping them achieve their goals.

Next, MHS teacher Tony Zaksewicz was honored for receiving the Florida Council Social Studies Harry T. Moore Teaching for Civil Rights and Civil Liberties Award. The FCSS recognized Mr. Zaksewicz at its conference in Orlando earlier this month. He was chosen, in part, for the passion he brings to the classroom and for all the opportunities he takes to bring Civil Rights education to all his students.
