Flagler Schools congratulates Wadsworth Elementary School and Matanzas High School for receiving the Five Star School Award from the Florida Department of Education. This is for the 2018-2019 School Year.

“I commend the administrators, teachers, support staff, students, and parents of Wadsworth and Matanzas for earning this award,” says Flagler Schools Superintendent James Tager. “I say ‘earn’ because of what is required to be honored. It is vitally important to have a good connection with our surrounding community and nurture those relationships." This award was created by the Commissioner’s Community Involvement Council and is presented each year to schools showing exemplary community involvement. In order to earn Five Star School recognition, a school must earn a grade of “C” or above, or school improvement rating of “maintaining or improving” for the year of nomination. The school must also show that it has achieved 100 percent of the established criteria in the following categories:

  • Business Partnerships
  • Family Involvement
  • Volunteerism
  • Student Community Service
  • School Advisory Councils
