Flagler Schools' Superintendent LaShakia Moore was honored on Wednesday, March 26th, with the Golden Eagle Award from the Boy Scouts of America.

Ms. Moore was named the "Community Leader of the Year" and was the featured speaker at the event, which was held at the Hammock Dunes Club in Palm Coast

"I was completely surprised," Ms. Moore told Brent Woronoff of the Palm Coast Observer about how she felt when she learned about this honor.

"When someone identifies me as someone to celebrate," she told Mr. Wornoff, "I think it recognizes the work that we are doing. And we have a long way to go, but we're at least starting that work, and so I think this honor recognizes that."

Ms. Moore, who was a former teacher at Rymfire Elementary School, posed with former students in a photo that was taken at the event, as well as with current Flagler Schools School Board members: Janie Ruddy, Lauren Ramirez, Will Furry, and Derek Barrs.

The Golden Eagle Event is "the premier fundraising event each year for Scouting America," according to the Scouting America Central Florida Council's website
