When I was Your Age: National Grandparents Day 2024
On Sunday, September 8th, we celebrate National Grandparents Day.
President Jimmy Carter issued a proclamation in 1979 that the first Sunday after Labor Day would be observed as National Grandparents Day.
"Grandparents are our continuing tie to the near-past, to the events and beliefs and experiences that so strongly affect our lives and the world around us," the Proclamation read. "Whether they are our own or surrogate grandparents who fill some of the gaps in our mobile society, our senior generation also provides our society a link to our national heritage and traditions."
According to LegacyProject.org, there are three purposes for National Grandparents Day:
- To honor grandparents.
- To give grandparents an opportunity to show love for their children's children.
- To help children become aware of the strength, information, and guidance older people can offer.
Check out this video that features a few very special Tiny Mike interviews. Tiny Mike speaks to some dedicated grandparents who work at Flagler Schools.
Make sure that you let your grandparents know how much they are appreciated on this very special day of the year.
