Flagler Schools Students Step Up in Breast Cancer Fundraiser

Flagler Schools students, faculty, and district staff are generous with their time and contributions to the local community.

Several clubs and organizations from our high schools have stepped up to participate this weekend in the 2023 Pink on Parade 5K run and walk designed to raise funds for breast cancer early detection screenings, cancer-related education, materials and cancer diagnostic testing for low-income individuals.

Hosted by the AdventHealth Foundation, the race, which attracts hundreds of walkers, runners, and pet participants, is scheduled to take place Sunday, October 8th, starting at 7:45 a.m., at AdventHealth, 60 Memorial Medical Parkway, in Palm Coast. If you haven't already registered, you can sign up that morning starting at 6:30 a.m. Pre-race activities begin at 7:15 a.m. with a (breast cancer) survivors' strut, medal presentation, and a photo op with local dignitaries.

FPCHS and Matanzas High School's DECA clubs will be on hand to help out. Additionally, the FPC Starlets dance troupe, cheerleaders from both schools, the National Honor Society will be on hand to encourage and cheer on cancer survivors as well as the walkers and runners in the race. Flagler Schools' very own Superintendent LaShakia Moore is among the Flagler Schools community signed up to participate in the 5K.

The race begins at 7:45 a.m., followed by a red carpet "Pooch Prance" at the starting line. It is immediately followed by a one-mile pet-friendly fun walk and a Pink Out Your Pet contest, where pet parents deck out their furry friends in the symbolic color of breast cancer awareness.
