Mrs. Batten's Kindergarten News!

 April 2008

Spring is in the air! and when we return from our Spring break, so will our planets and spaceships and stars!  Space is our next science, social studies, math and reading unit, followed by studies of the earth and Florida!

April is the beginning of a new treat month.  Please send in a boxed snack with your kindergartner to share with her/his classmates.

April and May are our summer birthday months.  If your kindergartner has a summer birthday but would like to choose a day in April or May, please let us know.

On April 25th, we will be co-celebrating Palm Coast City Arbor Day/Earth Day with the City of Palm Coast.  The Community Relations Dept. is donating a tree-1 gallon container, for every kindergartner to bring home, plant and care for.  These trees cannot come home on the school bus - they must be picked up in your child’s classroom. Please complete and return the attached form – we will know your ‘tree’ plans.

Whitney Lab, a hands-on sea life learning experience, will be visiting our classrooms on May 1st.  Their photo release form is also attached, please complete and return.

Thinking and planning ahead, we will be going on a field trip to the St. Augustine Alligator Farm on May 14th – more information will be sent home at the beginning of May.

We hope you’ve had the opportunity to ‘hear’ about our studies of the earth’s surface, our ‘active’ volcano and the results of our rock tumbling.  March was our weather month and we were ‘meteorologists’, recording the daily weather, collecting the data, organizing that data and constructing a bar graph for the entire month!  Of course, our “Thundercakes” story included measuring, mixing, (adding our secret ingredient) and baking – which used heat to change the properties of our mix - and then eating the results!

The progress we are making with our reading, math and writing lessons is “AWESOME”.  Please visit our website at flaglerschools.com to see a picture of our faraway friends at Camp Fallujah, (the last day for gift box donations is Monday, April 14th) and read about many of our classroom activities!

We thank you for your continued support!  Happy Spring!
