Turtle Gallery

During the summer of 2007, I volunteered to take over the adoption of a Loggerhead Turtle's nest. In doing so I invited several Rymfire Elementary families to join me on this adventure.

For three nights my family and my students visited and waited for the arrival of the hatchlings. Finally on the third night we saw some movement, the first hatchling popped his head into the cool summer night.

Two days later we joined the turtle patrol team and assisted in cleaning the nest. That day we dug out about 21 turtles, as well as one pip. A pip is a hatchling that is still easing their self out of the eggshell. In total we counted 90 Loggerhead!

This was an extraordinary experience for all.
