Second graders are introduced to the Scientific Inquiry Process. Situations are presented to them in which they have to follow the scientific inquiry steps in order to reach the desired outcome. They are encouraged to narrowly focus during observations while collecting and recording information. Sensing differences similarities, and distinctions will enable them to develop a hypothesis, follow through with an experiment and draw up a conclusion that may prove or disprove their theory.

In the process students are expected to select the scientific tool that they have deemed the most appropriated for the task at hand.
