CLASSROOM RULES

In order to guarantee your child and all of the students in our classroom the excellent learning climate they deserve I have developed a classroom management plan that will be in effect at all times. I believe discipline is a learning process. Children must be taught expectations and to take responsibility for their behaviors. They must understand that natural and logical consequences will follow any misbehavior. When in my classroom, students must comply with the following school wide expectations.

BE RESPECTFUL.

BE RESPONSIBLE.

                                              BE SAFE.

During the first few weeks of school, students will be taught my expectations for their behavior. Our classroom rules, procedures, and appropriate behavior are taught and reinforced daily. My goal is to reduce the number of discipline problems by teaching students appropriate ways to handle situations that they may encounter not only at school but in everyday life as well. Failure to follow classroom and school rules will result in loss of privileges, timeout, timeout in another classroom, note home, phone call home, detention in another class on Fun Fridays during our Celebration time, pink slip, or office referral.

PLANNERS

The student planner is a means of communication between each student's parents and his/her teacher(s). However, this is also the main organizational tool for the student. Students will keep their planners inside his/her 3 ring binder. Homework folders should also be kept inside the 3 ring binder. Please sign the planner daily and return it to school inside the 3 ring binder.

BIRTHDAYS

We will recognize your child on his/her birthday by singing "Happy Birthday" and enjoying a store bought snack that the parent brings in. This will be a short celebration and cupcakes or cookies are the easiest to pass out. If you plan on sending out invitations to a birthday party please send an invitation for each child in the class. I will be happy to provide a class list of names upon request.

VOLUNTEERS

I would like to welcome parents to volunteer in our classroom in a variety of ways. In order to volunteer or attend field trips you must submit a volunteer application and be approved. Also, you must make arrangements with me before coming in. Please let me know if you are interested in volunteering. Approved parents can help students in small groups, cut, trace and prepare materials, create bulletin board displays, help with class parties, laminate materials, and perform clerical duties. I would also welcome volunteers with busy schedules to do things at home if you cannot come in.

Please click on the link below to complete a Volunteer Application or you can pick one up from Ms. Debbie at the front desk. Thank you!

SNACKS

We will be enjoying snack after special area (about 2:30). Please send a snack to school for your child to eat each day. I will try to have a snack option for the students who did not bring in a snack. If you would like to donate a large bag of pretzel sticks, box of crackers, popcorn, dried cereal, granola bars, or another healthy snack for students who are without, please do so.

TIMED MATH FACTS

We have begun practicing timed math facts. During the first 9-week grading period first graders are expected to get 10 addition problems correct in a minute. We are only doing addition problems with sums less than ten. The last timed facts quiz of the grading period is worth 10% of the Math grade. This gives the students several weeks to practice and improve. Please practice addition facts with sums less than 10 at home. I use the website http://mathfactcafe.com to create timed facts quizes. Each student is graphing his/her progress in class.
