Grade 2 Curriculum Overview
- All students at Rymfire Elementary School participate in flexibility grouping for our 90 minute Reading Block. This gives the children the opportunity to learn necessary literacy skills in an environment where he/she can feel successful and comfortable in their learning activities. We are focusing on reading fluently and using proper intonation when reading (which is basically reading like we are speaking), along with learning higher level vocabulary and decoding skills.
- Our math curriculum this year will follow a county-wide map, which designates when to teach each chapter/skill in our math book. Across the grade level, the students are also expected to master the basic math facts from 0-12 in both addition and subtraction at the goal rate of 50 correct problems in two minutes. All students attending RES have similar expectations based on their grade level.
- Our science and social studies curriculum is published by Harcourt and covers a variety of age-appropriate concepts. Some of our science focus includes: plants and animals, space and weather, force and motion, and matter. Our social studies focus includes: people and places, historical events, important historical figures from the past, geographical landforms, and our government. We will also enjoy using interactive websites and United Streaming videos to enhance our learning across all curricular areas.
