Make it fun when helping with school work.  Remember - it's been a long day for your child and by the time you sit down to do homework you may not always get the cooperation you're looking for.  Here are some simple ways to practice the basics.

Use magnetic letters or letter cards to practice sight words and spelling words.

Practice writing sight words or spelling words outside with sidewalk chalk.

Go on a "sight word hunt" in recipes, newspapers or road signs.

Do a reverse spelling test....let your child quiz you and check your work....spell some wrong and see if they catch the mistake and correct you. Kids love playing "teacher"!

Read aloud together every afternoon.  If your child is too tired or just not willing to be the reader -share the job.  Take turns reading pages or even sentences.

Make flash cards for numbers, shapes or math facts.

Visit the Harcourt online math ....can be found on my portaportal page

Let your child help you sort and classify as you do laundry together.

Be creative and have fun!  If you need more ideas or have any questions please feel free to contact me.
