We firmly believe that you are your child's first teacher. We value your ideas and recognize that you know your child best. The more we as teachers and parents/guardians share with each other, the better your child will do. This year, our goal is to make our classroom as accessible to you as possible, even if you are not able to schedule a visit during the day. Please do not hesitate to call, write or email anytime. We strive to meet with each family a minimum of four times a year, but we know there are always families who benefit from more frequent meetings, even if they are on the phone or through email. This page is designed to keep you "in the loop" of what's going on in our classroom.

There are many thinking strategies we will be teaching your child this year. These thinking strategies are different than the curriculum skills taught in most textbooks. For example, making connections with what you read (" When I read these words it reminded me of the time...") is different from identifying the cause of an event. Visualizing a math problem (a strategy) is different from adding two digit numbers with regrouping. Your child will do better as an overall student if they are able to develop high levels of critical thinking skills. Above all, we value each child's thinking, not just the "right answer". This is true for curriculum such as reading and math but is also important when considering behavior.

In order to help you to support their learning, we will be making videos of many of these "thinking strategy" lessons and will post them online. In addition, there are some additional internet resources for you as well as some documents we use in the classroom. These documents will become "live" when we feel that your children are ready to use them on their own.
