Dear Parents,

At the beginning of the school year it takes our Kindergarteners extra time to get accustomed to lunch procedures and routines. Here are a couple of ways to help your child become familiar with lunchtime.

• Students are asked to make their own “healthy choices” at lunchtime. If they are purchasing a school lunch, please review the lunch menu with them in order to help them make good choices. If they are bringing their lunch from home, please encourage them to eat their sandwiches and healthy foods before they eat their snacks.
• Students who purchase lunch must memorize their lunch number. Students who know their lunch number by memory are able to get through the line more quickly and have a longer time to eat lunch. Students will also be asked their name. Please make sure that your child knows their first and their last name.
• The cost of lunch is $1.50.
• Snacks such as ice cream, chips, Powerade, YooHoo, and fruit snacks will be offered in the lunch line for an additional charge. Prices of snacks range from 50⊄ to $1.00. Because Kindergarten students take more time to eat a full lunch, the students will only be allowed to purchase a snack on Fridays. If you would like your child to purchase a snack on Friday, please make sure your child has enough money in their account to purchase a full lunch and one snack or send additional funds for the snack.
• Students must try their best to keep their garbage and food from falling on the floor. In order to avoid accidents, we ask that the students sit on their bottom and only get up out of their seat with permission. Accidents happen, but this is helpful to prevent them!
• Other cafeteria rules:
1. Students are only allowed in the bathroom one student at a time per class.
2. Horseplay will not be tolerated in the bathrooms. (This includes: turning on and off the lights, dilly-dallying, and playing in the water or the bathroom stalls)
3. Students must use appropriate volume levels in the cafeteria.

Each teacher sends home a sample of the keypad that the students will use to punch in their lunch numbers. Please use this to help your child learn their number. Thank you for working with us to help your child make “healthy” food choices and to make lunch time a pleasant experience for students, teachers and cafeteria staff.
