  Bring Social Studies Alive

Reading Social Studies successfully means being able to read and make sense of informational text. Students need to use strategies to help be active and attentive readers, read and remember informational text, and prepare for FCAT and test-taking. During the school year, the students will be learning about the history of the United States. They will learn and share information about what the land is like, how people use land, who lived here before us, and what important things happened in the past.

Reading - Oh, the doors you will open!

Flagler County has adopted a new reading series entitled STORYTOWN. Each story will focus on a specific skill or skills for the students to work on and master. Different genres will be introduced to the students as well as new vocabulary words.

If possible, please send in a pencil/pen holder for your child that would sit on the top of their desk. Many students frequently lose or misplace their writing utensils. Also, each student needs to have a high-lighter to use on certain assignments. With the cold weather approaching, each child should bring 2 boxes of kleenix in to share with the class.

There is a test or quiz each Thursday or Friday in Social Studies and on Friday in Reading. Students are allowed to take home books for review purposes. The tests are open book, allowing each student to look back into the text for the correct answers if necessary. I do this because when the students are involved in FCAT testing, they are able to look back at each story for information.

Please check your child's planner each day and sign at the bottom indicating that you have seen it. Homework assignments and notes between the teachers and parents/guardians are placed in the planners.

Please check periodically with your child to see what school supplies need replenishing. Many students often need a new supply of loose-leaf paper and pencils.

Students should dress appropriately for current weather conditions. If it is a chilly day, please send your child to school with long sleeved outerwear so they can go out during physical education time. Please make sure to review our school's dress code to ensure that your child comes to school dressed appropriately.
