Activities for 2007-2008

Presidential Physical Fitness Challenge
(Curl-ups, Shuttle Run, Sit and Reach, Push-ups, and Distance Run)
Bicycle Safety Unit
Students will be able to explore and demonstrate skills that relate to bicycle riding. Saftey equipment is alwasy essential because keeping the students safe is a top priority. Students will learn about riding rules and procedures through various stations such as 4-way stop station, 2-way stop station, yield signs, speed bumps and debris. Students will encounter narrow road exercises, looking back for traffic situations, and a 2nd edge station. Each station is designed to give students real life situations so that they can problem solve and apply what they have learned.

Field Day
Field day is still tentatively being planned. More detailed information will be sent out as the time comes closer. Possible activities include:
Beach Relay where students run down and around a cone while wearing a plastic swimmy.
Bucket Brigade in which students run to a baby pool to fill a sponge with water or cup with a hole, then run back to a trash can to dump as much water as possible into a teams trashcan.
Moon on a Spoon relay where students carry a plasitic spoon with a golf ball balanced on it.
We are also looking at a 50 yard dash, tug-a-rope, tire roll relay, scooter relay, Obstacle Course, and a Water Balloon Toss
So students start your practicing now so you are ready when the Field Day events begin!
Water and sunscreen are always importatant during PE and especially during Field Days.
Red Ribbon Week
(Say NO to drugs week)

Loco-motor and Nonloco-motor Movement Units
Student learning is impacted by gross motor and fine motor skills. One of the units we work on in PE is the loco-motor and non-locomotor movements. These activities might include throwing games and skills, kicking games and skills, sideline soccer, bucketball, over the net, Omnikin volleyball, clean out your backyard, QB WR Center, line dancing, and much more. Although something like a throwing activity may seem simple it is amazing how much an activity like this can engage the child's brain.
We will continue to keep you updated on events as they are planned.
