Week of: 11/17-11/21
*These are the skills and/or chapters we will be covering this week. Please note we will not be introducing new skills due to the shortened week.
* We will take a math test over chapter 9 on Friday. A review sheet will be in your child's planner on Thursday for them to complete at home. The review sheet does not need to be returned to school.
Phonics Skills-
1) long e vowel sound /e/ spelled -ey- , -y-
As in the words: money and key
2) adding inflections -ed, -es (y to i)
As in the words: family- families carry- carried country- countries
Reading Skill-
1) Authors Purpose- this is the reason why an author writes a story/ passage. An author may write a story to entertain, persuade, or inform the reader.
Reading Story- "At Play" on pages 364- 380.
The high frequency words are: imagine, favorite, board, enjoy, year, cook, popular, expensive
Grammar Skill
1) Singular Possessive Nouns
Possessive nouns shows ownership. It tell who or what something belongs to. An apostrophe plus s ('s) is used to form a possessive noun.
Example: Maggie's baseball the bike's handlebars
Math Skill-
1) Chapter 9- this chapter focuses on 2 digit subraction with regrouping.
Science-
Unit B Chapter 5- Energy Needs- we have finished this chapter and will take our test on Tuesday. We reviewed for the test on Friday and Monday.
Social Studies-
Unit 5- America's Past- we will begin this unit on Tuesday. We will be learning how people lived long ago.
