POINTS to PONDER, to MEDITATE and MUSE!

“Keat’s  Ode on a Grecian Urn

“Beauty is truth, truth beauty’----that is all ye know on earth, and all ye need to know.”  Keats is stating the Romantic belief that beauty is the path to truth.

Lily Tomlin replied with her quote:

“If truth is beauty, then why don’t more people get their hair done at the library?”

Think about the symbolism within Keat’s ‘Ode’.  Do you think Tomlin understood the deeper meaning?

Do you agree with Keats?  What meaning do you find in either one of the quotations?
