The tenor pan, plays the lead melody line.  Range goes from Middle C up 3 1/2 octaves.

The Double tenor range starts at F below middle C and plays melody or harmony lines, depending on the song.

The double seconds can play melody, harmony, or strum chords.  The range of notes starts at either E below middle C, or F below middle C.

Double guitars have a smaller range starting at D below middle C and going up to A in the treble clef staff.  The guitar have a much longer skirt, helping lower pitch resonate.

The triple guitars go lower still to the C in the bass clef but still reach up to the A in the treble clef staff.

The tenor basses typically play the bass line, harmony supporting the bass line, or stumming patterns.  Their notes are spread out on 4 pans and have a 3/4 length skirt and only 4 pitches on each pan.

The basses are the lowest pans in the ensemble.  Ours are "6-basses", but come also in 9-bass and 12-bass sets.  Each pan has only 3 notes on it.

The electric bass can be used to support the steel basses when possible.  This can add to the clarity of the bass parts.

The drum set is the heart of the engine room and keeps the whole ensemble moving along.  Typically it is augmented with irons of various sizes, shakers, scratchers, congas, and other percussion instruments.
