That's a saluki! Click on the picture to learn all about the Saluki. | The Life of Ms. Mulvihill Even though students don't believe it, yes teachers do have lives outside the classroom. Obviously, my name is Ms. Mulvihill, but you can call me Mulvi, everyone else does. I am a chemistry teacher at Matanzas High School. The subjects I teach vary, from Regular and Honors Chemistry all the way to AP Chemistry. (As you can see, I have much variety in my teaching career.) I am also the Student Government Advisor, Senior Class Advisor, assistant Activities Director and the Head of the Science Department.
I was born and raised in Florida, one of the last remaining natives, and attended a high school in South Florida, Spanish River High School. After high school I escaped Florida and attended Southern Illinois University at Carbondale, GO SALUKIS!! (For those of you that don't know, a Saluki is a Ancient Egyptian racing hound, it looks much like a furry greyhound.) I attended school on an athletic/academic scholarship for springboard and platform diving. I have included a picture of myself diving from the 10 meter platform in case you don't believe me. I intended on attending Veterinarian School upon my graduation from college, but after working in a clinic I decided that it was not for me. So after graduation I returned to South Florida and began teaching in 1999. In May of 2003 I received my Masters in Educational Technology from FAU, and I plan on continuing on so I can receive my Ph.D. In November of 2005 I received my National Certification in Chemistry.
I have many interests, not including teaching and Student Government. I am a huge Dolphin fan and was a loyal season ticket holder, until I moved. (Yes, I know that they were 1-15 last season, but we will get better, just watch!) I am also a HUGE NASCAR fan and a loyal fan Dale Earnhardt, Jr. (and proud member of the Junior Nation). I never miss a race on TV, and I attend the Daytona 500 every year. I am also a fan of the St. Louis Cardinals. (Can you blame me? 2006 World Series Champions!!) I also enjoy movies, with my all time favorite being Star Wars: Empire Strikes Back. I enjoy traveling, my favorite city in the entire world is Paris, France, where I have visited twice and plan on returning.
I look forward to getting to know all of you over the course of the year. Remember if you ever need any help or have any questions don't be afraid to ask! Here's to a great year of Chemistry at Matanzas High School! GO PIRATES!!
