Students on my A day schedule will be using the READ 180 curriculum by Scholastic:"READ 180 is a proven solution that produces quantifiable learning gains among struggling readers whose reading achievement is below the proficient level. It is working in thousands of high school classrooms across the country. Is it in yours?"
Each 90 minute class is structured as follows: 20 minutes of whole group instruction, 20 minutes of independent reading, 20 minutes of instruction software use, 20 minutes of small group instruction, and a 10 minute wrap up.
Students are divided into 3 groups so that after the 20 minute whole group instruction segment everyone rotates through stations: one group reports to the computer station, one group reports to the independent reading station, and the third group stays with me for small group instruction.
Student grades are based on reading logs and SRI tests associated with the independent reading station, achievement reports pulled from their computer work, and completion of the activities and rSkills Tests associated with their rBooks which we use in whole group instruction.
