Have a bad day, forget to do your homework (all work can be turned in for up to 2 weeks for partial credit), didn't do so well on your last test?  Well you are in the right place!  Take advantage of the opportunities to learn more and help out your grade! *You can only complete up to 50 points extra credit per semester.* 

  • Enter the fall 2008 word nerd national essay contest due Nov. 15
    • Hand in a copy to me to see. 
  • Poetry Slam on Oct. 28th
    •  You receive 10 points for going (bring back a signed program)
    • You will receive 20 points for preforming at the poetry slam (bring back a signed program)
    • Application- print out and turn in to me!
  • Go to www.vocabtest.com (+ 5 pts)  
    • YOU MAY ONLY TURN THIS IN ONCE! 
    • Complete, pass, and print off a junior-level vocabulary test for 5 extra credit points.
    • Note: these words ARE NOT our vocabulary words, but are a good supplement to the ones we study. These words will also help you on the SATs.  
  • Go to www.freerice.com and complete 2,000 points. (+5 pts)   
    • YOU MAY ONLY TURN THIS IN ONCE AND I KEEP YOUR PAPER.   
    • Play the Free Rice game, which donates 20 grains of rice for each word you get correct to the UN's World Food Program
    • 2000 points= 5 extra credit points
    • Print off the webpage when you get to 2000 or more points points
  • Find your vocabulary words in something your are reading, copy it, highlight the word, bring it in.  (+2 pts each)   
    •   You can only do the words for that week; must be handed in by the test. 
    • You can not print the word off the internet!
  • Create a mnemonic device for a vocabulary word and present it during vocabulary time in class.  (+2pts each)  
    • You can only do the words for that week; must be handed in by the test.
    • You can only do each word once!
  • Use a vocabulary word during the day! (1 pt per signature) 
    • Carry around an index card with a vocabulary word on it.  Everytime you use the word in class have a teacher sign the card
  • Write a book review for a book you are reading! (5 pts)   
    • Post it on the media center blog site!
    • Let me know that you posted it so that you can get credit. 
  • Complete the read around the media center book mark and attend the luncheon!  (10 pts.)

    • When you have completed the bookmark and luncheon, write a one page summary of your experience and the books you have read.
