Science Articles: These are summaries of current science events. Students will be asked to write a 5 sentence summary and a 5 sentence reaction to an article about science of their choosing. They can find articles in current newspapers, magazines, and online. The students will have a grading rubric in their science folders. I feel that these articles are important because they expose the students to researching a topic of their own choosing, reading it, summarizing it, and then forming an opinion about it. They also learn how to cite the sources of the articles and it gives them writing practice, as well. These are important skills that will be needed when our middle schoolers move on to high school.
