October just flew on by!!  It is hard to believe that we are in our second semester of school and that we are already in the month of November.  This month we will be busy studying Native Americans, Pilgrims, and the Thanksgiving holiday.  The students will be working on another Reader's Theater play that will focus on Thanksgiving.  I am hoping to have it taped on a digital video camera so that we can post it on our class web-page.  Our cooking unit this month will also concentrate on foods that were enjoyed by the Pilgrims and Native Americans.

Our first Community Based Instructional trip in the month of November will be to the Flagler County Public Library where the students will go on a scavenger hunt to learn about all of the resources that the public library has to offer.  The students will also help select books for our classroom that have to do with the Thanksgiving holiday.  Our second trip will be on November 19th where we will visit Flagler Pines Nursing Home to give out Thanksgiving pins to the residents.

Also, on the 6th of November we will go to the Flagler Auditorium to watch the Elephant and the Ant.  It is a wonderful opportunity for our students to attend a play.  Please ask your child to describe what they saw and learned about while at the auditorium.

Last month, our class began a program where the students have been "readers" in Ms. Benjami's classroom.  On a daily basis, a reader selects a book of choice that they would like to read and is accompanied by a peer buddy.  The "reader" reads their book independently to the students. The next day the peer buddy will be the "reader" and the next person in the rotation will be the "peer buddy". All students participate in this program and are eager to attend Ms. Benjami's class.  This has been a wonderful program for all of the students!!

PS:  I would like to thank my parents for sending in snack food items but we are still very low.  All students enjoy the afternoon snack so if you are able to send in a snack item such as pretzels, popcorn, etc. that can be shared by all students, it would be greatly appreciated!!
