Syllabus 08-09 School Year

Course Description

Business is an 18-week, single period course offered to 7th and 8th grade students at ITMS. 
The purpose of this course is to expose students to a wide variety of computer applications. Projects and assignments will incorporate word processing, spreadsheets, computer graphics, keyboarding, Internet/World Wide Web research and presentations. 8th grade students will also research career possibilities, which will facilitate the selection of major areas of study, based on individual interests, goals and abilities.
Assessment:

Teacher generated quizzes and exams
Hands-on classroom assignments and projects
Classroom participation
District generated end of course exam 
Grading System:

Flagler County School grading scale is as follows:

                        A     90 to 100

                        B      80 to 89

                        C     70 to 79

                        D     60 to 69

                        F     59 and below
Class expectations:

Students are expected to adhere to a high standard of ethics as related to the use of computers.  Students are not free to “surf” the net, download files, check e-mail, enter chat rooms, or make changes to the set up of the computer without prior teacher approval.

Class Rules:

Be in your seat and ready to begin when the tardy bell rings.
Treat equipment with respect, do not bang on computer keyboards or write on equipment.
Interfering with another  student’s work at his/her computer is unacceptable.
Respect each person in the classroom through appropriate words and actions.
Work areas must be cleaned and all materials returned to their proper place before dismissal.  Please push in chair and close book.
Remain in your assigned seat when the ending bell rings. Teacher will dismiss class.

Consequences for choosing not to follow the rules:

We will be following the Positive Behavior Plan at Indian Trails Middle School.

1 ½” three ring binder with dividers
pen/pencil
Identification (ID) Policy: 

Indian Trails Middle School is a closed campus and in order to further satisfy state and school board requirements for student supervision, it is mandatory that students wear their Indian Trails identification badges at all times when on campus.  Failure to wear the badge may result in disciplinary action.

Homework/Late work policy: 

All assigned homework/projects are due when assigned.  If absent, work will be accepted according to the attendance policy as seen on page 6 of the planner.  Late work will be dropped one letter grade for each class not submitted.
