Dear Parent/Guardian,

Welcome to Science at Indian Trails Middle School.

I am Mr. Adair and this is my second year at ITMS. This is my sixth year of teaching. I look forward to working with your child in my class this year. I know it is going to be a fun and exciting year for all of us.

The following are general class rules and guidelines that I have shared with your child:

CLASS RULES

1. RESPECT OTHERS

2. ARRIVE TO CLASS ON TIME

3. BE PREPARED

4. RAISE YOUR HAND AND

WAIT TO BE CALLED ON

5. SMILE AND THINK POSITIVE

CONSEQUENCES

1. VERBAL WARNING

2. WRITING ASSIGNMENT

3. PARENT CONTACT

4. DETENTION

5. REFERRAL

- After an absence it is the student’s responsibility to come to me to verify any missing assignments or tests. A student has two days to make up any work for each day absent. When prearranged, I will be available before or after school for your child to make up any tests or quizzes missed because of absences if not able to do so in class.

- The first assignment for each chapter will be to define and study all vocabulary words for the chapter, as I cannot expect them to understand what we are learning about if they do not know what the words mean. At the end of each section in the chapter the students will be assigned the Section Review. They will have time to work on that in class and ask for my assistance if needed. Reinforcement work sheets and a Chapter Review will also be assigned regularly. Students are expected to take home all assignments to go over with their parent/guardian to make sure all answers are correct. I urge the students to do this to form a cushion to fall back on in case they have a low Quiz or Test grade. The students are expected to study their vocabulary words through out the course of the chapter preparing themselves for the vocabulary quiz at the end of the chapter. They will know when the quiz and test are going to be one week in advance. The day before the test I will go through the test and tell them everything they will need to know on the test. It is up to them to write the information down. That night for homework using the information given to them, they are urged to put together one page (1 side of 8 ½ x 11 paper) of notes to use during the test. They are allowed to put anything and as much information on one side of the paper as possible. Those students who put forth the effort to prepare and use notes during the test and still get a score of D or F on the test are allowed to take the test home, correct all their wrong answers, and have their parent/guardian sign it. Half the value of each question corrected properly will be added to their test grade. If the student does not prepare and use notes for the test a red N will be placed in the top right corner of their test letting you and I know they did not prepare and use notes and will not be allowed to make any corrections on the test.

- Student averages will be posted on the last day of every week by the last four digits of the student number. I will give each student their number and they will be responsible for memorizing that number or storing it in a safe place. Grade sheets will normally be handed out twice every quarter (between report cards and interims) to take home and return with a parent/guardian signature the following school day.

-School wide policy for late assignments

1 Day Late = 10 points off

2 Days Late = 20 points off

3 Days Late = 30 points off

4 days or more = zero

If you have any questions or concerns, I can be emailed at adaird@flaglerschools.com
I check my email as often as possible however; emailing me does not take responsibility off your child for an assignment or test.

Thank you and I look forward to a great year,

Mr. Adair
