ACTING I

Course Description

This is a beginning level acting course. As the name implies, each student will be expected to ACT. The purpose of this course is to enable students to develop fundamental acting skills and integrate them into individual and ensemble theatrical performances.

Student Rights & Responsibilities

Success in this class relies heavily on trust and respect for others. Insubordination, disrespect, inappropriate language and disruptive behavior will not be tolerated. Failure to follow class rules, the rules of theatre etiquette or meeting your responsibilities as stated in the “Student Bill of Rights & Responsibilities” will greatly effect your grade.

Attendance & Participation

Students are expected to participate daily in class in a variety of individual and group activities and discussions. Participation will play a large part in your overall grade. You can only participate if you are present in class. While some absences are expected and unavoidable, unexcused absences will result is a ZERO for daily participation. Students who are tardy for class will be admitted ONLY with a pass from the Dean’s Office.

Grading

Nine weeks grades are based on the percentage of points a student earns/total possible points for the period.

A = 90 - 100% B = 80 - 89% C = 70 - 79% D = 60 = 69% F = 0 - 59 %

The final grade will be the average of the percentages (not the letter grades) of the 2 nine week periods.

Grades will be based on a variety of activities, including in class writing assignments, weekly quizzes, participation in class discussions and acting exercises, in class performances and rehearsals, out of class writing assignments (AKA homework) and one major writing project each nine weeks.

Extra credit is “extra” and not “in place of.” Students wishing to take advantage of extra credit assignments must have completed all previous assignments during the grading period. Extra credit will not be awarded in place of missed assignments.
