Technical Writing Assignment Due Monday of each week
Objective: To develop technical language arts skills and expand student's technical vocabulary by reading current automotive technical articles. Also to increase student's ability to communicate in technical writing. Student's will be able to write a neat, clear, and informative summary of a selected automotive technical article.
Directions: Select a magazine article or online current article and read the article. Record the name of the magazine, page(s) number of the article, website URL, author of article, date of publication, and any copyright information. Place this information in the heading of page on the left side of your paper. Place your name and date in heading on right side. Summarize the article and note the main points of the article. Detail three points of interest in the article. Use technical terms and correct spelling. Printed reports are preferred, but I will accept hand written reports also. One full-page minimum, 1-inch header maximum, and 12 font or smaller only will be acceptable. Spacing and size of writing are critical to success. Summarize article in your understanding. No cut and paste! Date and print your name in the top right hand margin.
In addition answer these questions in your report. If article does not have these answers, use another article:
1. What types of vehicles are in article?
2. What products are discussed?
3. What techniques are explained?
4. What technical term/words are new to you?
5. What repair or service procedure is discussed?
6. What interest do you have in this article and/or explain how this article may help you in the future.
Additional Instructions:
You may use any of the automotive magazines in our classroom. Ask instructor permission for any others. Inform instructor if you need help with this assignment. Do not use another student's information. Select magazine article before Friday. Turn in each Monday. Save a copy for your folder.
