Re:       Books and Videos

Dear Parent or Guardian,

This year your child will be required to read and/or view many selections of various genres of literature.  These selections were chosen based on their literary merit; however, the English department encourages you to preview and/or examine all of the selected works since there may be a possibility that these books may contain questionable language, problems that adolescents face, and/or violence.  Many of the videos are rated PG or PG-13.  Examples of the book titles are Who Moved My Cheese, Rich Dad Poor Dad, Anthem, Tangerine, The Miracle Worker, The Importance of Being Earnest,  Poems Deep and Dangerous, Twelfth Night,  The Giver, Max the Mighty, and Lord of the Flies. Examples of the videos are The Dead Poet's Society, The Emperor's Club, Twelfth Night, Lord of the Flies, The Mighty, The Miracle Worker, Romeo and Juliet, and The Importance of Being Earnest.

Obviously, not all of the material will contain these issues, but we wanted you to be aware. If you find any of the material inappropriate for your child, please write those concerns on this form and return it to me. An alternative selection will be available for your child, with no loss of credit.

We ask that you sign the sheet below stating that you received notification. Please have your child return this letter. By signing, you are not precluding your right to an alternate selection; however, without this permission, your child will not be permitted to view any of the video selections.
