Geometry

Course Requirements and Grading Procedures

Instructor:  Mrs. Landry

2007-2008

Dear Parents and Students:

I take this time to welcome you and your student to my Geometry class for this school year.  In order to make this year as pleasant and productive as possible for the student, I would like to outline some of my teaching philosophies and classroom policies.

My primary concern is for the individual student.  The needs of the young person must be taken into consideration in all aspects of teaching.  Achievement at all levels is the ultimate goal.  In return, I require certain standards from each student.   All work must be completed neatly and on time.  I will be giving math homework at least four times weekly.  On nights where a written assignment is not given, the students will be expected to review their notes and reading for the next day.

STUDENT CONDUCT

  • Students will show respect towards me as well as their classmates.  Respect will be shown by raising your hand in order to participate rather than talking out of turn.  Students will also respect each other's views and opinions by being courteous to one another.

  • Students will be seated before the bell rings or they will be considered tardy.
  • I will dismiss the class, not the bell.  Students are not to pack up until I have given approval.
  • No eating, drinking, chewing of anything will be tolerated.
  • Students must bring textbook, notebook, and pencil to class daily.  Students will not be permitted to return to their lockers to retrieve these items.
  • Students are expected to follow rules outlined in the Code of Student Conduct and the Student Handbook.

BATHROOM PASSES

  • Parents, I suggest that your student carry a backpack in which to put their  class materials.  FPCHS is a very large high school, and students will not have the time to go to their lockers after every bell.  Students must be on time to all of their classes, therefore, organization and time management are of extreme importance.

  • In addition, students must manage their time between bells effectively in order to use the restroom.  I will not issue bathroom passes frequently.  Students will receive two "free" passes to the restroom each grading period.  If they use their two "free" passes, they may use the restroom, but must accept a tardy.  This policy will be strictly enforced.

EVALUATION/GRADING

  • The Flagler County Schools grading scale is:

                A=(90-100)

                B=(80-89)

                C=(70-79)

                D=(60-69)

                F=(0-59)

  • The students' final grade will be determined by completing tests, quizzes, assignments, classroom activities, math labs, and completing a portfolio.

  • Grading categories are as follows:

Tests..............................40%

Quizzes.........................20%

Home Fun.....................20%

Portfolio........................10%

Daily Activity Grade....10%

  • Daily Activity Grade=class work, participation, warm-ups, be prepared, math lab, etc.

MAKE-UP WORK

  • STUDENTS will be expected to take the initiative to receive information about the missed work, complete and hand in the assignments within FIVE days of their absence.  Students will only receive credit if the absence is excused.

  • Make-up work must be clearly marked at the top margin with the words "MAKE-UP" and placed in the tray marked "LATE."  The student is responsible for turning in these assignments with no prompting from me.

MATERIALS REQUIRED

  • A three-ring notebook (at least 1 inch thick)

  • Standard #2 pencils-needed daily

  • Colored pencils (at least 8 different colors)

  • Pencil tip markers (any brand)

  • Metric ruler (cm)

  • Scissors

  • Compass

  • Protractor

  • Graph paper

  • Two tab dividers

  • Calculator (basic function)

  • STUDENTS WILL NOT SHARE THESE ITEMS DURING CLASS.

It is my goal to see that all students do their personal best in all endeavors.  Teamwork and cooperation will assist in the realization of this goal.  In turn, I hope each person becomes enthusiastic about math and learns to value education.  Please feel free to email me or contact me at school (437-7540, ext. #1043) if you have any questions or concerns.  Thank you in advance for your time, support, and cooperation.  I am very excited about working with you and your student!

Sincerely,

Mrs. Landry
