Extended Essay Planning and Scheduling Welcome to the wonderful world of the Extended Essay in History. Several items need to be addressed before we get started. 1. Make sure you have both the General Guidelines and the History Guidelines to refer to both throughout the process of researching and writing your paper. You need to know what IB expects of an Extended Essay as you complete the project.2. The Extended Essay in History may cover any historical topic or era. If you do not have a preference, however, it is strongly suggested that you select an area of study that is prominent in the IB History curriculum. This might help you next spring in preparation for the IB exam in History.3. The role of the Mentor is strictly advisory. My job is not to select your topic, do your research, locate your sources, edit your writing or reach your conclusions. My job is to help you do all of those things.4. Please do not delay in getting this project started (and completed). See the timeline that follows: Time-line: VERY IMPORTANT: 1. By May 21 – deadline for essay outline and bibliography2. June 29 – deadline for first research update to Mentor3. July 27 – deadline for second research update to mentor—at this point if you would like to submit a rough draft I highly encourage that.4. August 24– First draft of EE to mentor5. September 17– FINAL copy of Extended Essay due to Mr. Tangney, myself and turnitin.com Contacting your Mentor: Please feel free to contact me at any time during the summer to help with research problems, source location, etc. If you aren’t having problems, I still expect at least two updates during the summer to make sure the project is proceeding on schedule.
