The FPCHS Key Club started their Pennies for Patients Campaign on January 22nd, it will run for three weeks until February 8th . Last year the FPC Key Club was very successful in raising close to $3,000.00 for the Pennies for Patients Campaign. Monies raised help The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society accomplish their mission to find a cure for blood cancers and improve the quality of life for patients and their families. This year the Key Club would like to raise the bar and try to surpass $3,000.00. One of the things they are doing to reach the goal is by asking teachers and administrators to volunteer for the Stuck for a Buck fundraiser. With this fundraiser, students will pay one dollar for a strand of tape and then use it to stick the adult to a wall in the cafeteria. The first ‘Stuck for a Buck’ fundraiser happened Friday Feb. 1st at FPCHS. Mrs. Bessie Wall volunteered for the honor and the students had a great time covering her with duck tape. Stuck with her were the disciplinary referrals for no ID, dress code violations and inappropriate location that Mrs. Wall is famous for.Next week students will be able to ‘vote’ by donating money for the next Stuck for a Buck victim. The choices are the beloved math teacher, Mr. Seguine or the ICE man, Mr. Ripley (ICE is in-school suspension). In addition to the Stuck for a Buck fundraiser, Key Club is also collecting money from 3rd period classes (Pennies for Patients). The class that raises the most money will receive a “celebration” sponsored by the Leukemia Society. |

On Tuesday Dec. 18th, The American Legion Flagler Post 115 selected two Flagler Palm Coast High School Juniors to be delegates at the 2008 Boys State Leadership Conference. Interviewers included Commander William Hennenlotter, Judge Advocate Jim Larsen and legion member John McGovern. Boys State is a comprehensive one-week Leadership course in state and local government development to offer youth a better perspective to the practical operation of government and to show that the individual is responsible for the character and success of Government. Delegates who are selected to attend this program will “learn by doing” as they progress through the various phases of Government. | |

The Legion selected George Faris and Zachary Greenwald as the 2 delegates and Joshua Smooha as the alternate. Also interviewed were Travis Lowe and Michael Sanchez. All of these boys were nominated by teachers on staff at FPCHS and had to complete an application as well as sit for the interview.

| George Faris is an International Baccalaureate student and a member of the FPCHS Habitat for Humanity chapter. When asked, “If you were Governor of Florida for one day, what is the one thing you would do to improve your state”, George replied: “I would make Florida a more eco-friendly State. I would push alternative sources of energy; make recycling a priority and stress water conservation to save Florida’s aquifers.” Although only a Junior, George hopes to attend UF and then go on to medical school. | Zach Greenwald is an active member of the National Honor Society and Student Government and is the Goalkeeper for the FPC Varsity Soccer team. If Governor for a day, Zach would get rid of the FCAT, “one test should not determine if a student passes or fails an entire grade level”. |
