8th Grade Physical Science

 Dear Parents,

I look forward to working with your son/daughter this year. I have high expectations of each student. In order to meet those expectations, this class procedure plan has been developed. We are preparing for high school and beyond. Topics covered this year are: nature of science, motion & forces, energy, work & machines, electricity & magnetism, sound, light, matter classification, atomic theory & the periodic table, elemental properties, chemical bonds, chemical reactions, radioactivity & nuclear reactions.

MATERIALS NEEDED: 3-ring notebook (medium-sized rings), white loose leaf paper, blue/black pens, colored pens, pencils, calculator, ruler, highlighters, markers, and colored pencils, stickie notes.** Additional supplies will be requested as needed as the year progresses-please check the website often.

GRADE CALCULATION

 Quizzes/hw/daily work = 20%              Test/projects = 40%                Labs = 40%

DISCIPLINE PLAN  1) Verbal/Nonverbal warning/Seat Change/Timeout, 2) Student conference,

                                  3)Parent contact, 4)Referral

MAKE-UP WORK: Students are responsible for making up missing class work and tests.  Students can obtain their missing work from the absent box center. I encourage that they get a class buddy that can keep them informed of what is missed on the day they are absent as well as exchange phone numbers. Tests will be administered by the teacher. NUMBER OF DAYS ABSENT = NUMBER OF DAYS GIVEN TO MAKE UP. NO REMINDERS AND NO EXTRA CREDIT WILL BE GIVEN FOR FAILURE TO BE RESPONSIBLE.

LABS: Safety is our #1 goal! (See lab contract link for complete rules). Students who misbehave may earn a reduced grade or a 0 as well as a referral. Also possible is the loss of lab privileges, resulting in an alternate assignment. Due to time constraints, absent students may not be able to make up labs and will be responsible for an alternate assignment. Please check with teacher.

NOTEBOOKS: STAY ORGANIZED!! Keep all papers in a 3-ring binder in chronological order. This notebook will help you review for the 8th and 11th grade FCAT.Sections are as follows: Do Nows, Notes/Handouts, Projects/Activities/ Tests. Please keep all material in your notebook until told to do otherwise. (We usually clean out notebooks at the end of every 9 weeks and keep materials at home in a folder for future use).
