Are you a parent of a student with a disability or someone who would like to learn more about exceptionalitites? This is the group for you! We meet once a month to share thoughts, concerns, ideas, stories, etc. For two years, I have facilitated this eager group and shared information about how to interpret IEP's. We watched the movie "F.A.T. City". A special guest was brought in to discuss the SST process and how to understand psychological test scores. This year, we've conducted a brief book study, which was donated to us by UNF. We also welcomed Kim Halliday to discuss self-determination. Our Speech and Language Pathologist provided wonderful ideas to work with students at home. The Reading coaches shared reading strategies just before FCAT time. Dr. Brian Abrams spoke to some parents about being a person with a disability, as well as having a child with Autism. What a successful 2007-08 school year! What I found most amazing was the networking among the group. Sharing joys, as well as sorrows, seemed to be the most valuable aspect of this kind-hearted group. Please join us!! | |
