ARRIVAL

School hours are from 9:15 - 3:30.  Students are tardy at 9:20.  There is no supervision of students before 9:00, unless the students are signed up for 21st Century or Extended Day.

DISMISSAL
Students who walk and are picked up by their parents will be released at 3:15.  Car riders will be picked up in the circle on N. Palmetto at 3:20. You must have a car number assigned to you if you are to pick up your child.  Please request a car number at the front office.  Bus, 21st Century and Extended Day students will be dismissed last.
LUNCH
Lunches are $1.50 and $.40 reduced.  Milk is $.40.  You may pay by the week.  It would be most helpful if you could send the full amount for the week on Mondays.  This clears up any confusion for the child and reduces the chances of losing money.  Please place the money in an envelope with the child’s name and lunch number on the outside. You are welcome and encouraged to come have lunch with your child anytime.
SNACK TIME
We will have a small healthy snack sometime in the morning.  Rather than sending individual snacks, it works nicely when students bring in a snack for the entire class, once a month.  If everyone sends in one item for the month (box/bag of pretzels, cereal, snack mix, etc.) then we will have plenty.  Currently we have 21 students in our class.  Special snacks (cupcakes) for birthdays are always welcome. Per district policy, only store bought items are permitted. Snack supplies, such as plates, cups, napkins and plastic wear is always appreciated.  Additional items may be requested throughout the year in our Newsletter.
TAKE HOME FOLDERS
All papers will be sent home in our blue “STAR” folders (Students Taking Awesome Responsibility). There may be papers that need to be corrected, completed and/or signed. Kindly, return these to school the next day. If you are sending a note to me, kindly write it on the behavior sheet or include it, on the RETURN to SCHOOL side in the folder. Look there for notes from me, as well.  The behavior chart should be signed daily. Remember to check all papers that are sent home and empty your child’s folder each night.  Children love to share what they are learning. Please remember to give praise and encouragement.
NEWSLETTER
A weekly Newsletter will keep you informed of all First Grade happenings.
HOMEWORK
Homework is assigned on Monday for the entire week and is due on Friday.

CLASSROOM RULES

There is no long list of do’s and don’ts; just a few very important rules to follow:

  1. Listen and Follow Directions the first time they are given.
  2. Be Respectful – Be kind to everyone. Raise your hand when you have something to say.  Use appropriate language at all times. Keep hands, feet, and other objects to yourself.
  3. Be Responsible – Do your work. Have all books, materials and homework here at school and completed on time. Use equipment nicely.

BEHAVIOR PLAN

I want to provide a positive learning environment for all children.  One way to achieve this is to recognize good behavior and work habits.  Good behavior is rewarded with special “Star Tickets”. At the beginning of each week, every child will receive 5 "Star Tickets". I will also use a color coded behavior chart to monitor behavior.  Each child will begin the day on green and really wants to remain there. If they choose not to follow classroom or school rules, they will first be given a verbal warning.  If the behavior continues, the child will turn their tag to yellow and he/she will have to give me 1 "Star Ticket". If the behavior continues, the student will change the color card to orange and give me 3 "Star Tickets".   Blue indicates that the student’s behavior is inappropriate and they lose all "Star Tickets".  Students with orange or blue may possibly have a time-out in another classroom or may need to call home to discuss his/her behavior. Students also have opportunites to earn extra tickets throughout the week.  If they are doing something above and beyond, like helping someone out. they will receive additional "Star Tickets". Students are responsible for turning their own tags and for telling me why they had to turn their tag.  Yellow, orange or blue behavior will be indicated on theirfront calendar/behavior chart. Usually, on Friday, the students will be given the opportunity to pick from the small prize box (5 tickets) or the big prize box (10 tickets).  Again, students have opportunites to earn more "Star Tickets". If you would like to help keep the Prize Boxes full, donations are always welcome.

VOLUNTEERS
Volunteers are welcome and needed in our classroom.  There are many ways to volunteer and each one is an important part of making our year a great one.  You must be an approved school district volunteer to volunteer in the classroom and/or chaperone field trips.  If not already approved with a badge that has an expiration date on it, then please obtain a volunteer form from the school office or from www.flaglerschools.com (click on documents, then volunteer application).  BES has a policy of visitor check in, and you will be required to sign-in to visit any location in the school.  Please keep in mind that this is for the safety of our children.
