Classroom Expectations Behavior I choose to start each school year with five simple rules and expectations. Instead of choosing rules that tell us what we can’t do, I have chosen to set goals that tell us what we can do. If students are successful in meeting these five behavioral expectations each day, they will have a much more successful year.
Ready, Set, Prepared Come prepared everyday with paper, pencils, planner, and an open mind. Be ready to learn!
Positive Attitude/ Respect Others Smile, be polite, and use a gentle tone of voice Use manners; think about the feelings of others before you speak!
Listen With Attention and Stay on Task Eyes on speaker, focus on the message Focus… keep working, even if there are distractions
Stay Seated During Instruction Movement in the room can cause distractions and cause you to lose focus.
Raise Your Hand to be Recognized Imagine what the room would be like if everyone tried to talk at the same time-very chaotic! Please review these expectations with your child, and ask them why they are important. Following these rules allows every child to earn 3 behavior points each day. If students earn 10 behavior points each week, they will be invited to participate in "Fun Friday" --a special time set aside each Friday as a reward for students that make excellent behavioral choices. Homework You should expect homework every night except Friday. All students are expected to read for 15 minutes each night, and I usually assign math and spelling homework each night as a review of daily class work. Please make sure that your child completes his/her homework. Warning!! Students will lose 1 behavior buck for not turning in homework assignments.
Planners and Organization Every afternoon, your child should bring home his/her planner and homework folder. Please review the planner for any notes or homework assignments, and make sure you sign the planner each night. Encourage your child to pack their backpack before bedtime so that assignments, books, planners, and homework folders are not left at home. This habit will help your child to develop a routine that will make them more responsible. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me at school 386-437-7533.
