SAC Scholarship: Congratulations to Lisa Grine, the 2008 recipient of the $500 Student Advisory Council Scholarship, for her services to the Youth Center over the past four years! Lisa has been an active member of the Youth Center since our doors opened, her freshman year. Since then she has served as hostess to “Spotlight on Flagler Youth Talent Show”, as well as Chair of the council the past two years. Lisa’s leadership skills have helped steer the council into a very positive directions and supported all of the Youth Center’s initiatives’.
2007-2008 Student Advisory Council: The graduating class of 2008 is the first group of students to utilize the Flagler County Youth Center. The Student Advisory Council, the governing body of the Youth Center, will graduate the following 6 seniors: Michelle Anderson, Katelyn Branca, Carl Delesdernier, Lisa Grine, Tiffany Marino, and Angelia Whitehead. A huge loss that will be very hard to recover from, for many of these student have been with the center since our doors opened, and are very much a part of the how the center operates on a daily basis. At this time we would like to offer a “Special Thanks” to each graduating senior for all that they have done, and wish them well in all future endeavors!
"Friday Night Lights”: A Youth Center celebration for Middle School Students ONLY, will return in September. Watch & Listen for announcements when you return to school for the date of the first event!! Summer Camp 2008: The Youth Center’s Summer Camp 2008 is FULL and set to begin on Monday, June 9th. “Early bird’s” may arrive no earlier than 8:00am, with daily programming beginning at 9:30am.
SWAT Report: In honor of “World No Tobacco Day” on May 31st, select Youth Center SWAT participants & FPCHS students will wear a Surgical Masks & Hats during school on Friday May 30th, and distribute Surgeon General Warning cards about tobacco use to students. On the back of every card is a sticker reminding students that “If you Smoke…..You will Croak!”
-HELP WANTED: Students Working Against Tobacco (SWAT) groups into Matanzas HS, and Buddy Taylor MS, Indian Trails MS, and the Boy’s & Girl’s Club of Flagler County. Currently, FPCHS has the only SWAT group operating out of the Flagler County Youth Center, under the direction of the Student Advisory Council and their advisor, Cheryl Massaro. Any faculty or staff member interested in advising one of these groups, at the locations identified, should contact Cheryl Massaro by e-mail. Selected advisors will qualify for a two semester stipend, with the amount yet to be determined.
2008 Summer Trips: The dates have been set and bus arrangements made, for our very exciting FCYC Summer Trip schedule. Keep in mind any Flagler County Youth, in grades 6th -12th, may participate in these activities! Schedule: June: 13th-Bowling, 18th:-Daytona Lagoon, 20th:-Swimming, 25th-Disney Quest, 27th:-Bowling, July: 2nd-Daytona Lagoon, 9th-Universal, 16th-Daytona Lagoon, 18th-Swimming, 23rd:-IMAX/Golf, 25th:-Bowling, 30th:-Daytona Lagoon, August 1st-Bowling, and August 6th-Sea World’s Aquatica.
