Three Days off with Fay
posted on 8/23/2008 5:44 PMWho knew that Fay would stick around so long? I hope you all are safe and dry. Yesterday morning held lots of surprises. First, I woke up to find out we were not having school. While my children were elated, I began to become a bit concerned as the street in front of our house was soon turning into a river. The water started to rise and there was water beginning to seep into one of our bedrooms. My family decided to head to the Indian Trails Sports Complex and get some sand bags. This was a B.Y.O.S. (bring your own shovel) event that took place in torrential rain fall. There were a couple of Pirate students there helping their parents fill bags with heavy, wet sand, then load them up into their vehicles. It was literally, back- breaking work and I am amazed how much we accomplished in such nasty weather. (Never underestimate the power of adrenaline). We quickly rushed the bags home and stuffed them all around our home. Fortunately Fay picked up speed and the rain eventually stopped and the river slowly receded. Last night my family fortunately went to bed dry and thankful that Fay moved on. Today I woke up with a little more respect for Mother Nature and even more respect for those whose job entails manual labor! Speaking of jobs...... I found a link to your biology book that lists careers in biology. Check it out at Biojobs . Read them all and choose your favorite to write about. Turn in a one page write up and receive 25 bonus points! But you must do this by this Friday.
