Issue Number 1-08 http://fcyc.isgreat.org January, 2008
"Friday Night Lights”: For months middle school students and their parents have been requesting increased access to the Youth Center. It was for this reason why Center hours were expanded on Friday nights, during the month of December, to host “Friday Night Lights”. An event organized and developed for middle school students ONLY. After a large advertising campaign, the event was utilized by an average of 10 youth per evening. The low turnout has created a need to continue offering the event, but instead of every Friday night, only sponsor the event 1 night a month. No event will be held in January and our next “Friday Night Lights” event will be during the month of February.
Roller Rink “Open” Skate Schedule: Starting in January, the Youth Center’s Roller Rink will be open when school is in session, Monday – Friday from 4:00pm – 6:00pm for “Open” skating. ANY Flagler County resident with 4 wheels or In-Line skates may access the rink for roller skating, for FREE! Skateboards will NOT be permitted! To take advantage of this wonderful opportunity simply show up at the rink, with skates in hand, and be ready to roll!
Basketball Hoops Return: Thanks to the creative design of the Flagler School District Maintenance Department, the Basketball hoops have returned to the Roller Rink, and should be ready to use, very soon. Basketball can be played on the rink immediately after school, and until that time when scheduled rink activity begins.
Flagler County Roller Rink Update: Use of the FCYC”s Roller Rink has greatly increased! Every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday nights, 6:00pm – 9:00pm, weather permitting, the rink hosts pick-up Roller Hockey games. All Participants must provide their own equipment and range in ages from MS to Adult. Please keep in mind this is a Non-Contact program! On Tuesday & Thursday evenings, 6pm -9pm the rink comes alive with “Futsol”, a form of indoor soccer, played outdoor. Programs are being designed for any youth soccer enthusiast, additional information can be obtained by calling the Youth Center. Finally, FREE Youth Roller Hockey Clinics are being scheduled for Saturday mornings, from 10am – 1pm. Any Flagler resident interested in having their children learn about the areas newest sport, is welcome to attend.
Summer Camp 2008: Before you know it school will be out and families will be scrambling for a safe, supervised and “FUN” place for their children to spend their summers. The Youth Center’s Summer Camp program, open to children in grades 6th -8th, is one of those places. All returning campers will have an opportunity to register early, throughout the month of February. “Open” registration will begin, for all NEW campers, on March 1, 2008. Space is limited and the camp fills very quickly. Registration Forms and additional information will be available in the Youth Center after January, 15, 2008.
